RaCERS Affiliated Faculty Thompson Publishes Book on Disaster Risk Governance
Prof. Denise Thompson, in the John Jay’s Department of Public Management, published Disaster Risk Governance: Four Cases from Developing Countries. The book, published by Routledge, is the first extensive look at disaster risk governance in the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thompson, through extensive field work, studied the interface between major multilateral and non governmental organizations in specific national contexts. She argues that tailoring disaster aid and mitigation programs to local context is critical to more effective reduction in the toll of disasters on often vulnerable nations.
