Information Sharing, Big Data, and Public Safety
November 2014 –“Information Sharing, Big Data, and Public Safety”
Dr. Theresa Pardo of the Center for Technology in Government at the University at Albany spoke on the emerging issues of information sharing and government. She argued that as problems become more complex, the need for information sharing across organizations increases. She related these challenges to the public safety realm, and emphasized the importance of planning for technology procurements, and understanding the culture and operating environment of organizations in any efforts to adopt new technology or systems. She closed her talk with a discussion of “big data” and its potential for changing public safety.
