Eye-Tracking for Public Safety
May 2015 – “Eye-Tracking for Public Safety”
Dominick Rerubbio, MS ’14 and Prof. Robert Till (Security, Fire, and Emergency Management) presented on their research on reliance of novice and experienced building occupants using exit signs to navigate egress for a commercial building. Using eye-tracking apparatus, he was able to monitor eye-movements as people navigated to not only determine where they looked while moving, but also quantify the number of times and duration of time spent looking at exit signs. The technology and research approach holds great promise for public safety generally.
