Learning From the Disaster at 22nd and Market: An Overview of the Report of the Mayor’s Special Independent Advisory Commission
On June 5, 2013, workers demolishing a vacant building near the corner of 22nd and Market Streets in Philadelphia caused the unstable structure to collapse on to an adjacent Salvation Army Thrift Store, killing 6 and injuring over a dozen more. In this presentation, the Commission’s chairperson, Glenn Corbett, will discuss the creation of the Commission, including the role of the victims’ families. In addition, he will review the major findings of the Commission’s report, most notably the significant issues involving the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspection.
