SPRING 2020 SEMINAR SCHEDULE INCLUDES FIRST RESPONDER HEALTH AND SAFETY CONFERENCE, Dr. VYTO BABRAUSKAS ON WEST, TX FERTILIZER EXPLOSION
RaCERS is pleased to announce our preliminary Spring 2020 event schedule.
We begin on February 26 from 130-330pm, Dr. Vyto Babrauskas, renowned fire science researcher, will present on the West, Texas fertilizer explosion. On April 17, 2013, the West Fertilizer Company, in West, Texas, exploded, obliterating a significant part of this small community. The facility involved was a small warehouse holding fertilizer-grade ammonium nitrate, along with some other fertilizer-related products. A blast which registered 2.1 magnitude on the Richter scale created a 90-foot-wide and 10-foot-deep crater, and damaged or destroyed 500 structures in a 37-block area. Of especially tragic concern is that the disaster resulted in the deaths of 10 first responders, along with 5 civilians. Dr. Babrauskas critically assesses preventive activities, industry standards, and lack of regulatory action following this event.
First Responder Health and Safety will be the focus of a day-long conference on March 20, when emerging health and safety challenges will be addressed by distinguished panelists representing labor, technology, safety regulation, and mental health discuss and debate challenges and solutions to problems of stress, violence, and exposure to dangerous substances in the responder workplace.
Save the date for April 29 (130-330 pm) as we will announce final details of our final Spring event.
