RaCERS marks passing of Ron Spadafora, Assistant Chief with FDNY, John Jay College alum
Ron Spadafora (BS ’86), a 40-year veteran of the FDNY and Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention, succumbed to his battle with 9/11-related cancer. Chief Spadafora was a quiet supporter of the Center’s work, and a cheerful and authoritative presence on numerous policy issues related to codes and standards and emerging fire safety issues.
“Ron was well-known as a progressive leader, always expanding his knowledge and deeply committed to fire prevention. Although with his background, he was in demand across the Department, he chose to dedicate his later career to fire prevention. He was a also tireless promoter of higher education for the fire service and a dedicated teacher,” said Glenn Corbett, member of the Christian Regenhard Center and faculty member at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Spadafora was formerly very active in the College’s Alumni Association.
