Water, Power, Telecommunications: Disasters and Critical Infrastructure Interdependencies

About This Event

Dr. Rae Zimmerman is a leading expert on critical infrastructure interdependencies. She is Professor Emeritus at New York University, and Director of the Institute for Civil Infrastructure Systems (ICIS).  Some specific areas of focus of her research include social and environmental performance measures for the resiliency of urban infrastructure services in the face of extreme events of both natural and human origins. Dr. Zimmerman has researched numerous lifelines and critical infrastructure in numerous disasters including 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, and many other events. 


She has received numerous National Science Foundation research grants for topics inclduing transit use during evacuations, infrastructure interdependencies, and urban resilience.
