All Terrorism is Local: The Role of Local Public Safety Governance in Homeland Security

April 2011 – “All Terrorism is Local: The Role of Local Public Safety Governance in Homeland Security”

Prof. Erica Chenoweth, with Wesleyan University’s Department of Government, reported on her research (co-authored with Prof. Susan Clarke of the University of Colorado — Boulder) on local governance and its impact on effectiveness of homeland security expenditures. Illustrated by Urban Area Security Initiatives funding, she presented her lessons learned from her research. Namely – that funding alone did not guarantee success. Prof. Chenoweth also discussed her current research on media coverage and its impacts on attitudes toward terrorism.
