RaCERS marks the passing of public safety computing pioneer Robert Shumate 1926-2017

RaCERS wishes to acknowledge the passing of Robert Shumate, a public safety computing pioneer, and featured speaker at our Scott Hovey Memorial Lecture in October 2016. Bob was a charming and impressive presence, beginning his career with the Maine State Police and continuing through operating the first real-time police computing center in the 1960s. He then went on to pioneer computer aided dispatch systems and influenced the advance of Enhanced 9-1-1 services.

Shumate was recognized by a New York City Council Proclamation during his visit to the campus.
