RaCERS Faculty Present at NIST Public Safety Communications Conference

The team of Columbia University and John Jay College’s Christian Regenhard Center for Emergency Response Studies (RaCERS) presented their ongoing research in San Diego at PSCR2022. PSCR2022 is an annual conference sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Public Safety Communications Research office.

The work was funded in the area of Mission Critical Voice, and is designed to experimentally measure the impacts of voice radio quality of service on the quality of user experience. The experimental program was adapted for covid, and findings will be used to inform standards for voice radio quality and traditional land mobile radio and LTE environments. The project is one of the first efforts to try to measure impact of quality of service on first responders’ ability to be effective.

The conference brings together academic researchers, government, industry, and first responders from throughout the nation. Representatives of the team, including Prof. Charles Jennings, networked and provided demonstrations of their research and experimental testbed over the 3 days of the event from June 7-9, 2022.
