Two devastating fires in January 2022 — a 12 fatality rowhouse fire in Philadelphia, and a 17-fatality high-rise fire in The Bronx — led to numerous media inquiries for RaCERS faculty Glenn Corbett and Charles Jennings.

Jennings also co-authored a working paper on fire risks to the homeless and vulnerably sheltered with Kindling, non-profit fire safety research center. That project, still in progress, is funded by the National Fire Protection Association Research Foundation.

Ironically, Jennings was a featured expert on PBS’s NOVA in an episode titled “High Risk High Rise” which examined threats to tall buildings from fires, earthquakes, and other hazards. The show premiered just days before the Bronx fire.
